Mosman's Ormeggio at the Spit opened the doors yesterday at its new Italian street food sibling, Chiosco by Ormeggio. Chef Alessandro Pavoni will punch out dishes including deep fried pizza (pizza fritta), pea and oxtail balls and a salad of radicchio, fennel, pecorino and walnut.

The chef and his business partners Bill Drakopoulos and Victor Moya are hoping to tap a dine-in audience with the sweeping Middle Harbour views, as well as passing boaties looking for takeaway and catering. Located next to his two-hatted Ormeggio at The Spit, Pavoni says Chiosco will be BYO until its liquor licence is granted and the menu will include product from Ormeggio Bakery (come on down porchetta panini), as well as house-made pasta.

Ambitiously open seven days, breakfast, lunch and dinner, even the very Italian Chiosco makes a few concessions to wider Sydney tastes. There's a beef burger on the menu, but Pavoni's version is served with buffalo mozzarella.
