Sydney loves a banh mi. From misschu to Marrickville Pork Roll, we can't get enough pate, pork meat and pickle stuffed into a crusty long roll.
A new player on the Vietnamese street food-scene, Rolld, opened this week in Randwick. There are more than 20 Rolld stores around the country and this is the first in Sydney.
The Melbourne-born franchise promises to deliver quick Vietnamese favourites such as pho ($11.90), "Rolld soldiers" rice paper rolls ($3-$3.90), "Mr Bun Mee" bahn mi ($8.50) and "The B" vermicelli noodles with Asian vegetables salad and herbs ($11.90).
"The pork roll is a family recipe," says Rolld's co-founder Bao Hoang. "We've got pate, mayo, spring onion and a pickled cucumber based on the way mum's been doing it for 30 years."
Protein choices for the roll include barbecue chicken, roast pork, "Mama Hoang's meatballs" and the classic white-and-red processed pork meat that Rolld makes in-house.
Rolld Randwick will be open for lunch and dinner. A drawcard dish is the banh xeo crepe ($7.90) filled with a choice of lemongrass beef, roast pork with crackling or tofu and mushrooms
Other Rolld stores are planned for Parramatta and Sydney CBD in coming months.
